2026 Heat Pump Incentives at a Glance
Whole-Home Rebate
$2,650 per ton for qualifying air-source heat pumps used as the sole source of heating and cooling, subject to program caps and requirements.
Partial-Home Rebate
$1,125 per ton when qualifying heat pumps supplement an existing heating system. Integrated controls and other requirements may apply.
HEAT Loan Financing
Eligible homeowners may apply for zero-percent financing through a participating lender for qualifying energy-efficiency improvements.
Income-based options: Qualifying households may be eligible for enhanced heat pump incentives up to $16,000 or additional turnkey options. Eligibility, approved equipment, installation dates, funding, and program rules are determined by Mass Save and may change.

How the Process Works
Schedule a Home Energy Assessment
Mass Save requires an assessment for whole-home projects and for some bonus incentives. Complete any required weatherization before the applicable deadline.
Get a Professional Load Calculation and System Design
EML evaluates the home, existing system, ductwork, comfort concerns, and heating load to recommend a properly sized ducted, ductless, or dual-fuel solution.
Confirm Eligible Equipment and Project Requirements
Qualifying equipment must meet current ENERGY STAR Cold Climate and Mass Save product-list requirements and be installed by a participating Heat Pump Installer Network contractor.
Install the System and Receive Documentation
EML completes the installation and provides the proposal, invoice, equipment information, and applicable contractor documentation needed for the homeowner’s application.
Homeowner Submits Financing and Rebate Applications
The homeowner applies directly to Mass Save and, when using the HEAT Loan, to a participating lender. EML can explain the contractor documents but does not make eligibility decisions or submit the homeowner’s application.

How much is the 2026 Mass Save air-source heat pump rebate?
Standard whole-home rebates are $2,650 per ton up to $8,500. Partial-home rebates are $1,125 per ton up to $8,500. Basic rebates are $250 per ton up to $2,500. Final eligibility and amounts are determined by Mass Save.
Can I finance a heat pump with a Mass Save HEAT Loan?
Eligible homeowners may apply for 0% financing up to $25,000 for qualifying improvements. Financing is subject to Mass Save requirements and approval by a participating lender.
Do I need a Home Energy Assessment?
A no-cost Home Energy Assessment is mandatory for whole-home heat pump projects and for certain partial-home bonus incentives. Other project and weatherization requirements may also apply.
Can I keep my boiler or furnace?
Possibly. A partial-home or dual-fuel design can retain existing equipment, but integrated controls, equipment sizing, fuel-displacement, and documentation requirements may apply.

The homeowner submits applications directly to Mass Save and participating lenders. EML provides relevant contractor documentation and can help explain the installation information.
