When a Standard Equipment Swap Is Not Enough

Some projects need more than replacing one piece of equipment. A renovation may require new ductwork, several comfort zones, limited-space equipment, fresh-air ventilation, multiple heating and cooling systems, controls, or coordination with electrical and other trades. We evaluate the building as a complete system and develop a practical installation plan.

Renovations & Additions

HVAC planning for reconfigured rooms, finished basements, attic conversions, additions, and major home renovations.

New Duct Systems

Supply and return design, trunks, branches, registers, grilles, zoning, insulation, sealing, and custom sheet metal.

Multi-System Homes

Separate attic, basement, addition, garage, or in-law systems planned to work together without unnecessary complexity.

Heat Pump Conversions

Ducted, ductless, dual-fuel, and cold-climate heat pump options for homes moving away from older equipment.

Zoning & Controls

Thermostats, zoning panels, dampers, equipment staging, and control strategies matched to the system.

Ventilation & IAQ

ERVs, HRVs, exhaust, make-up air, filtration, humidity, and air-cleaning options integrated into the HVAC plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom HVAC Project Questions

What makes an HVAC installation custom?

A custom installation requires system planning around the building rather than simply replacing equipment in the same configuration. It may include new ductwork, multiple systems, zoning, limited-space equipment, ventilation, or trade coordination.

Can you design HVAC for an addition or renovation?

Yes. We can evaluate the new layout, existing equipment, available capacity, duct or piping options, equipment locations, and whether a separate system is a better solution.

Do you install the ductwork and sheet metal?

Yes. EML Mechanical provides custom ductwork and sheet-metal installation as part of complete HVAC projects or as a separate defined scope.

Can you coordinate electrical work?

Electrical work is completed by a licensed electrician. When included in our proposal, we coordinate with the electrical subcontractor and identify the electrical scope and allowances.

How do you determine the correct equipment size?

Equipment selection should consider the heating and cooling load, building construction, room layout, duct capacity, design temperatures, zoning, and intended use—not square footage alone.
